Illness

In the case of illness at home, your own or a relative’s, it is a good idea to let the Parish Priest know.

If it is long term and you or they would like to receive Holy Communion, the Priest will organize a visit by a Special Minister to arrange this.

If you or a relative is admitted to Hospital, it is important that the Catholic Chaplain at the hospital is informed together with the Parish Priest. The Data Protection Act has implications for priests and chaplains. It is no longer easy for them to see patients without their consent. If you are to be admitted to hospital as a patient, and wish to receive the pastoral care of the Catholic Chaplain, it is important to ensure that hospital staff record the fact that you are a Catholic. You must also make a specific request that the Catholic Chaplain be informed. Those responsible for children, or for anyone unconscious when admitted to hospital, should do likewise.

The Catholic Chaplain at North Tyneside General Hospital, Rake Lane, North Shields, is Sister Perla.
